Thankamani of 1976 batch had lost her husband when her daughters were very small. She was in dire financial crisis, had no assets to speak of, and was fully dependent on a meagre pension. Her son-in -law Mr. M.P. Anish required urgent liver transplant which was to be carried out at Lizzy hospital at an estimated value of Rs 75 lakh. As she was short of the requisite amount to be deposited at the hospital, she even had to forego the donor who had come forward. It was then that support was sought from SEWA by her well wishers and fellow Reccaites
An emergency SEWA EC Meeting was held on 3rd Jan to discuss this matter and it was decided to appeal to SEWA members to donate for this cause and facilitate treatment. We collected about Rs 3 Lakhs which was handed over to Lissy Hospital on 28.01.2022 towards the surgery of Anish. Another 30000/- ( Rs. 26500 collected from members and Rs. 3500 from RECCA SEWA SOCIETY Corpus) was also mobilised
Even though his conditions improved slightly after the transplant, he remained in ICU due to complications and infection in the blood . Unfortunately he breathed his last on 12/02/2022, but the extra amount collected was handed over to clear the bills on 14.02.22
