Bringing Joy to the Hearts of Our Elders: A Heartwarming Onam Celebration at Kasturba Old Age Home

At Sewa, we believe in the power of compassion and the joy of giving. As the festive season of Onam approached in 2023, we decided to spread smiles and warmth to the cherished inhabitants of Kasturba Old Age Home, where 27 wonderful souls reside, each a mother with a lifetime of stories to share.

Our President and Treasurer embarked on a special visit to Kasturba Old Age Home in Nedumpuzha, Trichur. As they stepped inside, they were met not only with the embrace of the old age home’s serene environment but also the enthusiastic spirit of the staff who dedicate themselves to the well-being of these mothers.

Originally, our plan was to sponsor the traditional Ona Sadya, a sumptuous Onam feast. However, we learned that another NGO had been consistently providing this support, along with the Onakkodi tradition. Hence, we shifted our focus to what else we could do to make this Onam truly memorable.

The Matron of the home approached us with a heartfelt request – a pedestal fan and a 43” color TV to replace the existing 22” TV. We saw the opportunity to enhance their daily lives and provide them with a chance to enjoy the festive season to the fullest.

With a heart full of empathy and care, we decided to gift the requested items to Kasturba Old Age Home ahead of the Onam festivities. Our aim was to ensure that the inmates could savor the special programs and new releases that light up the screens during the Onam festival each year. We believe that every soul, regardless of age, deserves to revel in the joy of celebration.

Our President and Secretary returned to Kasturba Old Age Home in Trichur on 22nd Aug to deliver the new TV. As the television illuminated with vibrant colors and the heartwarming smiles of the elders, we were reminded of the profound impact small gestures can have on their lives. The gift of a TV wasn’t just about the technology; it was about creating a shared experience and weaving more joy into their days.
