SEWA Project at Prateeksha Kendra -Kannur on 24/11/2007

Aanother SEWA project was  implemented successfully on 24/11/2007 at  Kannur.   in a function presided over by the District Medical Officer, Recca SEWA Society presented dress kits to 62 HIV + ve families.. A total of 149 persons will be benefited by this project.

As decision was taken that  the next  SEWA project  would be at Kannur. Mr. K P Sathyendran had taken the responsibility of  finding  out needy group at Kannur and finalize the project. After a detailed study it was decided to extend help to Prateeksha Kendra under CDNP+ ( Cannanore District Network of Persons with HIV+ve) . CDNP+ is a part of Nation wide network of AIDS patients. It is a large group containing adult males and females , who became the victims of the incurable disease due to  either ignorance,   or due to   certain unavoidable circumstances including innocent children who were burdened  to carry this  curse due to no   fault of their own . The network is formed by themselves to protect themselves   from being victims  of  ‘stone throwing’  and other unmentionable acts by the rest , as well as to    establish their right to live in the society until death with dignity. Success of this forum is due to the fact that all the office bearers, staff and co-coordinators are patients themselves.

When SEWA members   spent   few moments with them they could  gauge  the effectiveness of their organization. In spite of the  extreme sorrowful conditions they were in,  .they seemed  very happy and cheerful.   Their main activity was  to keep each other as    happy as one  could be,  extend nursing services  to fellow patients in their final stage of life. They hold  family get together of all the members at least once   a month, where ,  they celebrate with cultural activities,   eat    together, and   make one another other very  happy.   They struggle hard to arrange such meets ,  involving  food and conveyance  to all the 150 members,  but,  somehow manage with the funds/ donations  from  like minded NGOs and   service organizations.   Despite these they never   complained and were content and  satisfied with what they had.

They had given us   a list of 62 families.  . Most of them were Women and children   aged  3 to 10 years . Sathyendran    arranged Kits for each family containing dresses for all the members as per the list. Most of them attended the function to receive the Kit.   Chanchala, V M Prakash, Sathyendran  n and Basheer  represented Recca SEWA.

.Basheer  in his  address    said that  we did  not claim  that we had  done  a great job ,  but  that it was only a token of our love towards them and requested them to accept our gift. They wholeheartedly agreed with loud   applause.

Office bearers of Rotary Club, LODGE, JAYCEES, Etc, were also present in the meeting. In the presidential address the DMO highly appreciated the mentality of SEWA to be a part of rehabilitation of AIDS victims
