Recca is a group of enthusiastic and efficient bunch of individuals who had shared the most magnificent period of their life at Regional Engineering College, Calicut (Present NITC) from1974 to 1978 and who wants to give back to Soceity .
History
The Recca 78 group, was started with the intention of retying the tattered knots of friendship, which had been mangled by years of separation and lack of correspondence of the Engineering students of the 78 batch of REC. What just started off as a brainchild of a few dedicated and foresighted individuals, RECCA78, grew and prospered with time. From its humble beginnings, RECCA78 transformed itself into a very useful forum for us to keep abreast of all the news and happenings of the alumni circle and also to organize meetings and get togethers. But we felt that we had to move on and take the next step, and a pretty big one at that. Many among us were very dynamic in the exchange of ideas as to how to tread this noble path
After hours of brainstorming, both online and otherwise, and careful deliberations, it was unanimously decided to set up a charitable organization. . We had already proved that with our collective enthusiasm and spirit we could achieve a lot. The grand success that our silver jubilee reunion turned out to be, bears ample testimony to that fact. . Ideas started flowing from each of the members to start something of our own. Since each one had some cause or the other very close to their heart , it was decided that we should take up each of them one by one as small projects and build up the organization . The idea of a self sustaining organization was also debated, and it was decided that, based on the contributions received, we could decide further on the same.
Formation
It started off as a dream, an aspiration to manifest the genuine concern in us, for the plight of our less fortunate fellow beings in our society, when 1978 Batch of REC students celebrated their Silver Jubilee of passing out from college in 2003. The initiatives came from those amongst us, in whose hearts,
the brooks of compassion hadn’t quite dried up. . A group of friends assembled at Trichur on 18 th April 2004, and thus came to life SEWA – Serve Eternally With Altruism –
Our motto aptly reflects our ideas, objectives and beliefs.
The rules and guidelines to help the organization’s smooth functioning were crafted and the finer points were discussed. Though SEWA was first announced in RECCA78, this organization is open to all like minded REC Calicut (NITC )alumni. The best aspect of a group like RECCAA / NITCAA is that, it is getting so many educated, well-to-do, and enthusiastic bunch of people together. This is no mean achievement and it’s imperative that we try and leverage this into getting something more done
We are proud of what we are today, of what we have achieved in life. And, we should be equally aware of our moral duty and responsibility to those less privileged around us, who for all we know, could have very well been in our shoes with the slightest twist of fate. One thing we’ll realize, other than of course the joy of giving back, is that giving back is not that hard. The effort required per person is not really that much, but the sincere wish to do something is what really counts. The reason we are bringing this up is that we
have met so many who genuinely want to contribute and give back to the society but tend to put it off to later because as they feel that a lot of time and effort is required. But once you realize that even a few moments you spare from your busy schedules can mean so much to someone’s life, it’s so much easier to
actually go out and do something… and SEWA is providing you a platform for exactly that
